The Great Cookie Swap
Each year, our kitchen staff has a huge cookie baking competition. It’s a lot of fun and the staff really bonds while doing it. This year our chef Crisela Nunez took the lead and made the lion’s share of various cookies. Those cookies were then put out on beautiful display dishes.
We use festive holiday tin containers and allow the patients and long-term residents to collect as many as they like. Those residents then give those cookie tins out to family and friends that visit during the season. In a way, it is nostalgic for our residents to give out sweets to guests in their own homes during the holidays.
Breakfast with Santa
As a way to bring a sense of “home for the holidays” to our patients and long-term residents, another tradition is “Breakfast with Santa”. Once again the kitchen goes all out and puts out a wonderful breakfast buffet for the residents. They have a wonderful time sitting around, listening to holiday tunes, and enjoying good food with new friends. And of course, with good ole Jolly Saint Nick joining them as the special guest of honor.
As a special treat, our chef John Kiernan makes Crème Brulee French Toast that melts in your mouth. It’s always a huge hit, in addition to our traditional omelet station with hot cider and hot chocolate.
